Commissions
For future reference, I'll be charging in the area of 50 - 100 dollars for an ink drawing at 11 x 17 and up. Prices will have to be negotiated for time and effort. Eventually I'll be moving it up to being paid by the hour . Don't worry I work fast and yes I will only count the hours I am actually sitting down and working on your drawing. Pencil sketches will still range from 20 - 30 dollars for 9 x 11 - 11 x 17 at the largest.
I'm still getting back to your email, so please be patient. I have to sort out and schedule all the requests, and currently I'm waiting for money to transfer so I can order more paper.
And please if you order anything from me, either personal request or E-bay, and its for someone's birthday, please add the date of there birthday as well as try to request the art at least two or one and a half months in advance. This includes art intended for Christmas presents. NOW is the time to bug me if you want stuff in time for Christmas.
I seem to be getting a good number of City of Heroes requests. Which is actually pretty damn cool to be honest. Also please don't commission me to do art if you intend to reproduce it for a card game or a comic. that requires a separate negotiation, and a contract. Royalties will have to be considered and etcetera.
yes Mary Bell, you can't expect to make a profit using my art and not expect me not to want a piece of the pie. It's just the way it is.
An expensive kind of Zen
I feel a bit like a dinosaur when it comes to my drawing habits. I am aware most of my peers will pencil on computer paper, and ink with ball point pens or sharpies. Now when I do a full finished drawing I prefer to do it on sketch paper that's acid free, if I ink I prefer to do it on illustration board or Bristol paper. When I started drawing, "oh so many years ago" I was told that if you wanted your drawing to last, you did it on good paper. if you wanted your ink lines to last a long, long time, you used India ink. You didn't draw with ball points or sharpies because they faded. So for all these years I still draw on Bristol, canson or strathmore sketch paper, and when I ink I either use a rapidograph or my little ink jars filled with Windsor newton Black magic India ink. But now I'm wondering, does everyone know something I don't?? Does regular printer paper not become yellow after only a few years? do ball point pens not become faded blue lines after about ten years?? Am I just fooling myself?? When I draw, I draw with the intention of having the drawing last for as many years as possible.
Politics
Yes I know you don;t want to hear it, But it's almost election time, and I feel that this is an important election.
"the unfeeling president" by E.L. Doctorow
a very good piece on the horrid man we currently call president.
Lessie currently bush is "the first president since Herbert Hoover to stand for re-election with fewer people working than at the beginning of his term." We are no longer chasing Osama bin laden, you know him right? the guy who "masterminded" the terrorist attack on the world trade towers? The event that started this "crusade"
You know everywhere I turn I see people I know, either personally, or by acquaintance or even fleetingly, loosing their jobs to out sourcing. While the administration busies itself with getting our soldiers killed to further there own interests, your friends and family are loosing there jobs. We loose civil liberties and personal freedoms more and more.
So do yourself and the American people a favor this year. Vote, get bush out of office. And for gods sake don't waste your vote on Nader. Even if you don't know all the issues, Inform yourself as well as you can but remember the important part is to get bush out of office. Things won't get instantly better. BUT things can only get worse with bush. America has made itself the enemy and the bully of the world. People used to immigrated here because they wanted greater freedoms, greater civil liberties, because America was supposed to mean something. It was supposed to mean freedom and security. All we've become now are the loudest, meanest bastards around.
To be blunt I look at the state of affairs and I feel depressed, and I feel scared. Do your part this year. No matter how Apathetic or Nihilistic you may feel for the chance of change to occur, just do it. It's better to try and fail then to have never tried. Patriotism isn't in unquestionably following what the administration says. Patriotism is loving your country, remembering what it stands for, the principles of it, and defending them with all your ability. The founding fathers formed this great experiment knowing how important it is and was to voice your opinion and question your leaders.
Oh and on a side note, so you know the other side of out sourcing. I have relatives who live in Mexico. And they had really good jobs that were the direct result of out sourcing. But something people don't know is that, eventually better wages and medical care are asked for, when that happens guess what? the jobs are moved. Many of my relatives are now unemployed or losing their jobs. There jobs, are, heh, being Out sourced. American business has almost become a virus. They move the jobs from foreign soil to foreign soil. Meanwhile we have a greater rate of unemployment, now my question is, what the fuck are they thinking>? how are we supposed to support ourselves? How do we contribute to the economy if well, we don't have any fucking jobs, tome it just seems like a strange self defeating philosophy.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
Oh and as for another bit of Incorrect and vulgar misuse of media. Sinclair Broadcast group, which owns many cable channels, will be pre-empting prime time programs, to air a documentary that's anti Kerry. Now see the problem with this is, See the problem with is , the cable channels don't get a choice, they HAVE to show it. Also instead of getting both candidates equal treatment, there are no plans to show something anti bush. Now you see something like Fahrenheit 9/11, was you had the option to go see it. There wasn't a large media corporation
forcing affiliates to air a program that's basically political propaganda weeks before an election, guess what you do that in third world countries were civil liberties and freedoms aren't even an after thought.
welcome to the new America boys and girls, it's going to stay this way and only get worse, unless you do your part.
"Trying to lighten things up"
Right even though I likely wont get in a lighter frame of mind till after the election. I'll do my best. Hey that's what the comic is here for after all. To make you laugh. So far I'm having a ball with warhammer 40K: Dawn of War. It's that nice star craft fix I;ve been needing and it's lovely to have several races as opposed to only three or two. Hmm Not much else is coming to mind currently. and i really need to get back to auctions and commissions.
Later true cynics,
take care
